The consented scheme will create a new high quality mixed-use development bringing major benefits to the local area.

The development will include:

  • A new Sainsbury’s supermarket
  • Over 220 high quality private and affordable homes
  • An 80-100 bed hotel
  • Start-up business accommodation
  • Early Years/ nursery provision
  • A new public square

Cross Quarter will regenerate the former Nexans site, and adjacent Gallions site, both of which currently lie closed to the public.

The new mixed-use development will include a Sainsbury’s foodstore which will provide more choice and convenience for the residents of Abbey Wood, currently poorly served by large supermarkets. Importantly, the supermarket not only brings major employment opportunities but also provides the catalyst and funding for the other key elements of the scheme such as the new public square, start-up units and the new Early Years education facility.

Pedestrian routes will be improved and, together with the new Crossrail station, provide a strong linkage with the existing shops and business on Wilton Road and Felixstowe Road so that Abbey Wood as a whole becomes a stronger and more attractive centre for both existing and new residents and businesses alike.

220 residential apartments will also be included as well as 5,000 sq. ft. of retail and commercial space.

In addition, the scheme will generate over £125m of value into the local economy over the next 10 years and once completed, will create over 500 full and part time employment opportunities. In addition, during the construction phase alone, some 400 jobs will be created.
